Farm Beginnings Program featured in Register Star

Harlemville, NY–Hawthorne Valley’s Place Based Learning Center (PBLC) was recently awarded a $690,000 grant from the USDA for its Farm Beginnings Program and was featured in the Register Star. The program is a collaboration between the PBLC, Grow NYC, the Bard Prison Initiative, Soul Fire Farm, and Black Urban Growers.

The Farm Beginnings program provides new and aspiring farmers with farmer training, including mentorship from seasoned farmers. With the new funding, the program will further its outreach to socially disadvantaged communities, including minorities, veterans, and the formerly incarcerated.
