NEW INFORMATION - March/April/May/June 09

(okay, okay, rather than just stuffing all new stuff into this box, we should seemlessly integrate it into the existing web pages... that will happen, but perhaps not during the field season)

KYPP Butterfly Surveys - Here's a new page, still with some bugs, but a starting point that reports on the latest findings of the KYPP butterfly crew; clickhere to visit.

Participatory Natural History Surveys & the Know Your Place Project - Find out more about the county-wide natural history surveys we are hoping to do together during the coming this summer. Click here to download an outline of the project.

Floodplain forests of Columbia County - This is our report on the floodplain forests of 15 different sites around Columbia County. The report documents the plants and animals we found at these sites and describes the patterns we found in that diversity. This is still a rather technical report, but we're hoping for a digest.Click here to download.

Historical Aerial Photographs of Columbia County - With the help of Otis Denner and the Columbia County Soil & Water Conservation District, we have been digitizing old aerial photographs of the County. We're not done yet, but if you're interested in an image, click here to see if it's available.

Our Summer Walks are now scheduledclick here tovisit our walks page.

We would appreciate your input - we are working on a draft manuscript describing aspects of Columbia County history and nature, we would appreciate constructive criticism, click here to download the current draft of the manuscript (as a 72MB pdf). Please share your comments via the connections on our "Contact Information" page on the left.

Thank you for stopping in. A Grey Wood Frog and a herd of cows & a tractor keep you company on this page. A none-too-subtle reference to our program's goal of combining an understanding and appreciation of the natural world with a realistic approach to agriculture. Of course, we're idealists in our own way, but we hope that the information on these pages helps inform your interaction with the land, whether you're a farmer or a naturalist. These pages explain some of our work and motivation. For general information, please choose from the list at left; for more detailed information, use the menu on top. field
