Our research themes are outlined in the clickable links to the left. We have focussed on understanding the farmland in terms of the habitats that it provides for native species. Our initial work involved surveying for various organisms on seven regional farms. Subsequently, we tackled open-land ponds, and compared the biodiversity of farm ponds and landscaping ponds. We have also combined some of our fieldwork with "bookwork" to explore the landscape of our changing county. Finally, Martin Holdrege has taken on a group of native organisms which are important to farms - the native bees, who are major pollinators of crops.

The last category, "What's Cooking", will give you a sneak preview of what we plan (or hope) to work on in the future. We have now begun work on floodplain forests - a habitat that occurs both on farmland and non-farmland. Bottomlands tend to have good soils and readily accessible water, making them prime agricultural sites.
