This position reports directly to the Camp Director and Medical Director and is responsible to Columbia County Department of Health to ensure compliance and good health care to the staff and campers for all three camps: Kids Can Cook day camp, Farm House Residential Camp and Farm Field Camp. All camps run simultaneously but on varying schedules.
The applicant must be an RN holding a current license in New York State with a current certification in CPR/AED and at least two (2) years of pediatric nursing experience. The Camp Nurse will be responsible for maintaining all medical records and documentation for all three camps, overseeing the medication distribution and screening incoming camper medical forms. Prior to each camp session, the Camp Nurse will review any significant health issues involving incoming campers with the staff as well as assist with training during the two (2) weeks prior to camp beginning. The day-to-day work of the Camp Nurse includes the administration of first aid as necessary, general overall wellness care for campers and staff and interfacing with doctors and parents under the direction of the Camp Director. In certain circumstances, it may be necessary for the Camp Nurse to accompany the Staff and Campers on off-site trips or hikes. A Nurse Proxy will be available while the Camp Nurse is off premises.
Work schedule for all camp employees is six (6) days on and one (1) day off per week.
Mandatory Counselor Training – June 20 – July 1 (you must be available for certain presentations during the training)
Camp Duration – July 3 – August 13 (you must be available for the full duration of the residential camps and available for each new session of day camp)
Working Hours – This can be a residential or commuter position. Hours are based upon camper needs. In most cases, medication distribution happens pre-breakfast around 7am and at bedtime around 8pm. There is a possibility for job sharing in this position.
