One of Hawthorne Valley’s founding place-based educational programs, the Visiting Students Program (VSP) and its seasonal Farm Camp Program embrace its mission to nurture a child’s innate interest in the world around them. Children are engaged in hands-on farm experiences while they work, play, learn and live together on a biodynamic farm. Our staff teach and guide the children by fostering the goals of Waldorf Education begun by Rudolf Steiner.
Our goal is to help all who participate in our programs become self-motivated individuals who approach the world around them with openness and an awareness of community and the environment.
During the school year, the Visiting Students Program brings school classes into a unique weeklong farm experience. Each year over 600 children from schools throughout New York state and along the east coast visit Hawthorne Valley Farm and stay in the Main House.
From late June to early August, the VSP welcomes children to its Overnight Farm Camp Program, with House Campers living together in our large farmhouse, and Field Campers sharing a campsite in a shady glen on the farm.FOLLOW US
