Summer Camp at Hawthorne Valley Farm
Ranked nationally by Modern Farmer magazine as one of the 7 Best Farm Camps for Kids, Hawthorne Valley Farm offers a variety of Farm Camp options from late June through early August through its Place Based Learning Center. There are day and overnight option for ages 8-16.
Children and counselors live, play and work together on our active Biodynamic farm. Activities include feeding the animals, cleaning the barn, collecting chicken eggs, gardening, horseback riding, hiking, learning nature-based arts and crafts, singing, and swimming.
Kids Can Cook Day Camp (ages 8-13, Mon.-Fri., 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.) connects children to the wonder and beauty of nature through food, nutrition, farming, and participation in traditional crafts. Two-week sessions begin June 26.
Overnight Farm Camps (one- to four-week sessions for ages 8-16) seek to build reverence for life and community awareness through living, playing and working together on our Biodynamic farm. Children feed the animals, clean the barn, collect chicken eggs, garden, horseback ride, hike, learn nature based arts and crafts, sing, swim and eat delicious vegetarian organic meals. There are two options available:
House Camp (ages 8-12): Activities include archery, navigation using a map and compass, Olympic Day, wood carving, and more!
Field Camp (ages 12-16): Kids are challenged to become the farm’s ‘junior apprentices’ working with our professional staff members, plus cultural outings like the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival and attending plays.
